Tennis elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, is a condition that involves pain and inflammation in the tendons on the outside of the elbow. Despite its name, tennis elbow is not limited to tennis players and can affect anyone who repeatedly performs gripping or twisting motions with their forearm.
- Pain and tenderness: On the outside of the elbow. This pain can radiate down the forearm and may aggravate with activities gripping or twisting motions.
- Weakness: In the affected arm and difficulty in fully extending the forearm.
Tennis elbow is commonly caused by repetitive stress or overuse of the forearm muscles. Some common activities that can lead to tennis elbow include playing tennis, other racquet sports, weightlifting, painting, typing.
Treatment for tennis elbow include:
- Rest and activities modification: Resting the affected arm and avoiding activities that aggravate the pain.
- Cold therapy: Applying ice packs or cold compresses to the affected area can help reduce pain and inflammation.
- Stretching and strengthening exercise: We will provide exercises and techniques to strengthen the forearm muscles, improve flexibility, and promote healing.
